Make Your Own Beats Without A Studio Setup!

The days of needing expensive studio equipment to make your own beats are long gone. Beat making software and programs have advanced so much in the last 10 years that the need for high end equipment really isn't there. Now, in no way am I attempting to downplay or degrade high end production gear - that would be stupid. But what I am saying is, a lack of funds for expensive gear is no reason to not make your own beats. In fact, producer 9th Wonder uses beat making software and he has made hits for artists such as Jay-z and Ludacris.
Common Objections to Beat Making Software
There was a time when beat making software was very limited and simply didn't compare to the high end production tools such as the MPC, Triton Keyboard, etc. Today, that isn't the case. In fact, with enough time and practice, you can make your own beats using software that literally sound like they were created using studio equipment. With that being said, let me cover 3 common objections brought up when concerning beat making software..
1. Quality:
Sound quality is very important when making beats. Whether you are using them for your own projects or selling them to other artists, nobody is going to listen to a beat that SOUNDS like it was made on a computer. There are certain programs that only operate off of MP3 sound samples, which you want to stay away from. Any program worth your time and money should operate with WAV format sounds.
Another thing to note is that most beat making software comes with stock sounds that don't quite live up to industry standards. While the program itself may be good, the sounds it comes with are a little lack luster. To get around this, you need to get your own custom sound samples (you can buy them or sample them yourself) to use for your beats.
2. Credibility
There is a lot of elitism amongst producers who use certain equipment to make beats. A lot of dedicated MPC users look down on those who use software to make their beats. This fact alone keeps a lot of people from making beats simply because they are too ashamed to use programs rather than hardware.
In my opinion, this is one of the most ridiculous things to have to worry about. In the end, the only thing that actually matters is whether or not your beats are GOOD. I have heard a lot of garbage beats made on MPCs and keyboards that I wouldn't even force my worst enemies to listen to. Does this mean MPCs and keyboards are worthless? Of course not! It all comes down to preference. If you like using software or can only afford software at the moment, then use it!. And just remember - when you're selling your beats, the last thing an artist is concerned with is how you made the beats. All he/she wants to know is if the beats are hot - period!
3. Price
Let's face it - not all software is cheap! Most of the good programs run in the 200-500 dollar price range. This makes it tough for potential beat makers (maybe even yourself) who don't have that kind of money to spend. There are a few less expensive options, but be careful, because some are strictly MP3 based and don't allow you to import your own sounds, thus limiting your beat making potential.
How about a fully functional, studio quality beat making software for under 30 dollars?? Sounds crazy, I know. But such a program actually does exist. Visit http://www.probeatmakingsoftware.net to find out why DubTurbo is hands down one of the best programs you can use to make your own beats. Seriously.
