In order to make a great beat, the most important thing is to put all the instruments in the right way so that they sound like a good rhythm. For Rap, it is usually a pattern that consists of at least 3 instruments: a Kick Drum, a Snare and a Hat. You need to be creative at this; below is a very good drum pattern that you can copy and modify a little to make it "your own beat":
Set your time signature to 4/4, so there are 4 bars in this pattern, and 4 beats in each bar.
- Kick drum: put two notes at beat 1 and beat 3 of bar 1; one note at beat 3 bar 3; one at beat 2 bar 4.
- Snare: Bar 2: one at Beat 1 and one at 4; bar 3: one at beat 2 and one at 4; bar 4: one at beat 1 and one at beat 4.
- Closed Hat: Bar 1: beat 1, 2 and 4; Bar 2: beat 1, 2 and 3; bar 3: beat 1, 2 and 4; bar 4: beat 1, 3 and 4
Now you will need to have a beat making software to write these notes into then convert them into wave or mp3.
