5 Tips To Sell Hip-Hop Beats

In a market over saturated with music producers it has become quite difficult to sell hip-hop beats efficiently. Only the smart producers have realized what techniques work and don't work. These 5 tips will help you improve your sales and continue to brand yourself in the long run.
1. Branding - It is vital that from the beginning you develop a plan to brand yourself. Invest in a professional logo design and use it in everything you can. The goal of branding is to build an image that will resonate with your audience. Your target market needs to get familiar with your brand and with your sound. Once people get comfortable with your brand and with you they will be more likely to buy beats from you on a regular basis. People rather buy from someone they know than someone they don't know.
2. Appearance - Ive noticed that this is the most overlooked part of a music producers business. People believe that just because they have hot beats they will sell a shit load but what they don't understand is that they need to make it easy for the customer to buy beats. Create or hire a designer to make a visually appealing website or Soundclick layout that will keep the attention of your customer and will engage them to buy beats. This layout needs to be well organized and clearly labeled. You need to provide terms of agreement for all the rights you are selling (leasing and exclusive). Come off as a professional and you will see sales in return. People like to buy from producers that know what they are doing.
3. Sales & Packages - Host package deals on your site. Entice people to purchase beats in bulk, this way you will make more money for leasing a few tracks. Some of my favorite deals are Buy1Get1Free for certain months and Buy3Get2Free. Pricing is also important, research shows that people buy more when they see.99 or.95 at the end of a price so price your beats according to that theory.
4. Marketing & Driving Traffic - This is the most important concept when It comes to getting sales. You need DRIVE TRAFFIC to your site and there is a few ways to do this. My favorite is of course social networks. The biggest mistake producers make is spamming the hell out of their social networks. You should not spam but instead develop relationship with artist and give them feedback on their music and then tell them that you make beats and to check you out. Another great way to drive traffic is by doing forum runs. Post tips on forums, give people feedback, and join the conversation. Make yourself a part of the community on that forum and in as many forums as you can. Again, DON'T SPAM. Add a signature to your profile and watch traffic come to your site. If you have something constructive to say people will notice will investigate you further. YouTube is also amazing at driving traffic. Creating beat making videos, tutorials, vlog series and uploading your beats to YouTube should be an everyday routine for your business. In the description add your links and traffic will come. Do this regularly, never stop networking and marketing.
5. Customer Relations - Respond to your customers promptly. If your sending out beats manually do this as soon as payments come in or in less than 24hrs. Develop a professional reputation and be fair to the people that buy beats from you. NEVER sell exclusive rights to more than one person, this is unethical and if ever discover could destroy you, your business and your brand. Follow up with the people that buy your stuff and give them constructive criticism on the songs that they make. This will earn you respect, money and a great reputation.
